  Dysfunctional Families: At Risk Children

Noted educator, Selma Fraibert, has observed that we have not yet found a cure for children whose nightmares are real. Our roles as educators are no longer merely to provide "academic instruction" but to deal with the emotional impact of life in our modern culture. This workshop offers a humanistic and practical approach to reaching and teaching children in crisis.

Topics:

Characteristics of dysfunctional families and the roles family members play

How the cycle of co-dependency develops

Warning signs for children at risk and strategies that provide emotional support

Helping at-risk children "fit-in" and become engaged in classroom learning and with their peers

Engaging parents successfully

Using bibliotherapy to help children identify and relate to their own emotions in positive ways
